Clik here to view. For many of us, the thought of traveling brings with it both thoughts of the fun and excitement to be had while exploring a new location, but also the dread of long hours in a plane, and recovering from stiff necks and backs due to sitting in one position for too long, sleeping on less than comfortable mattresses, and those dreaded hotel pillows.
Living in Orlando, I’ve been rear ended by more than my share of bad drivers. When your city is full of tourists that don’t know where they’re going, this happens. Unfortunately, it’s taken a toll on my neck, and finding a good pillow I could sleep on was always a challenge.
Over many years and hundreds of pillows that didn’t quite work, I settled on a curved memory foam pillow that fit my neck. This was great while at home, and even for road trips, but the idea of hauling around a giant, 5 lb hunk of foam is not an option if you plan to travel on a plane. It’s large, clunky, and somehow never fits back in the bag. As a chronic over packer, the last thing I need is something to take up more space in my luggage. That’s what 10 pairs of shoes are for.
Enter Magniflex, with their innovative new twist on a memory foam travel pillow, called the Sushi. The name alone was enough to catch my eye, but when we first got the pitch for a travel pillow review, at first glance, I thought it was just a cheap, loose foam pillow that one could roll up and stuff into one’s luggage. Imagery can be deceiving, however, as this was far from the case.
Produced in Italy, Magniflex’s latest spacesaving pillowcase is perfect for globetrotters like me, who need a supportive pillow while traveling.

Clik here to view. The cover on the pillow itself is quite soft-so much so, that I preferred that to the built in ‘pillowcase’. The velcro on the case was a little annoying to sleep on, as it was, but no matter. Just zip off the case when you get home, and throw it in the wash. Overall the pillow is easy to use, light weight (especially for being made from high quality foam), and well designed. Simply slide each end of the pillow into the pillowcase, roll it up, and store it in the included pouch. Your pillow will easily fit into even the smallest carry-on or backpack.
Every Sushi comes with one storage bag, one pillowcase, and one very comfortable Magniflex Magnifoam pillow-made of the same proprietary, high-density microcellular foam used for the brand’s famed luxury mattresses. If you’re looking for a high quality pillow that’s small enough to fit in a bag, but will support your neck while traveling, give it a try.
Within a week after I got home, my Tempurpedic neck pillow had finally died. It would appear I’m back on the bed pillow hunt again. Something tells us Magniflex is going to be back in our house again, perhaps this time with a bigger pillow.
